General instructions to be followed in writing exams

It is very important for a student to know few basics to get good marks. following are few General instructions to be followed in writing exams-

1.       The sequence of attempting the paper - it is very important to decide in advance the sequence of your answers. The general thumb rule is to answer the section with more marks first.

2.       Answer copy should be very neat and clean, No cutting should be done (if you have written anything wrong, just think if it is necessary to cut it, 80% of the cutting in answer sheets is unnecessarily done by students.) If it is very necessary to cut what you have written, cut it with a single line like this - No cutting should be done in the answer sheets.

3.       No blank pages should be left in the answer sheets in between the answers.

4.       Your writing should be good and legible; it does not mean your writing has to be beautiful but it should be legible (clear enough to read) with a neat and clean copy. Students who get good marks have good writing with a neat and clean copy. Students who fail have a dirty copy with poor and illegible writing. Don’t try to fill pages unnecessarily and write fast with illegible writing

5.       Your theory answer should have following -
a.       Answer in points (you can think of points before you start writing your answer). Do not write the paragraph in essay form.   Every paragraph should have a highlighted point.
b.      Give examples - always support your points with examples. This shows that you have understood the theory and you will get good marks. You can write like this- Example:-
c.       Write definitions, always include definitions in your answers, you can give a name with the definition if you remember or you can write without name also.
d.      Draw diagram, flowcharts etc. in every theory answer. You can make a diagram, flow charts of all the points you are going to write.

6.       Keep the length of your answers equal; that is if the question is for 7 marks and you have written three pages than all the questions of 7 marks should have around three-page answers. A question with more marks should be long and questions with fewer marks should be small. Do not write three pages for 2 marks and two pages for 7 marks.

7.       Always carry a pencil and a scale; you must highlight your points with a pencil by underlining with a pencil.

8.       Write question numbers very clearly with each answer. Always write section, question no and part for each question, like this - Section B Q. 2 (a)  underline this with your pen or pencil neatly.  Most of the students who do not get marks had not written q.no properly (and they blame the university for poor checking)
